NORWELL COMMUNITY GARDENS

The Norwell Community Gardens is a collaborative project to turn a fallow field into a garden space for Norwell residents to enjoy. The area will include a memorial garden, a wildflower meadow, and a community raised-bed garden.

The Conservation Commission, the Beautification Committee, Norwell Farms, and Norwell Garden Club are collaborating in the project. The first phase is the Nancy Hemingway Memorial Garden surrounded by a wildflower meadow. Future plans include a Community Garden coordinated by Norwell Farms for education and recreation.

The Nancy Hemingway Memorial Garden

Nancy was Norwell’s Conservation Agent for many years and recently lost her battle with breast cancer. This garden and meadow was a vision she had for the field. The perennial garden part of this project is being dedicated to Nancy. Benches and pink flowering trees will be added along the existing pathway and around the garden to provide shade and places for reflection

The Wildflower Meadow

The field that surrounds the perennial garden requires work to remove the invasive species, to improve the soil health, and plant native wildflower seeds to create a natural meadow environment. Future plans include adding a walking labyrinth path and sculptures to the space.
